History

Get together was started by Mary Bailly, Patrica Pickles and some other friends in 1989. The original members were mainly British women married to French men, who wanted to socialise and speak English. The influx of British people to the area gave the group the idea of helping these people to settle down and cope with the change in bureaucratic culture. After 10 years there were about 65 member families, in the meantime both French and other nationalities were admitted to membership. Right from the start there was a newsletter disseminating information and listing social events. Since 2005 the newsletter has been distributed by e-mail in addition to posting to those without computers. The walking group grew from 6 members deciding to have a meal together after the walk, nowadays there can be upto 40 members dining after a 7-8 km walk. The membership today is about 200 families with the membership spread mainly over Deux Sevres with a few in Vienne, Vendee and the Charentes. The website was published on the 1st March 2007 and the members Forum was initiated on the World Wide Web (www) in October 2007.

Our Constitution

At a recent EGM (Extraordinary General Meeting) various new and amended clauses to the Constitution were voted on and approved.

Following approval by the Prefecture of Deux Sevrés we published both the French (legal version) and its English Translation.
